When it comes to medical admissions, OCI candidates would be given the same consideration as Indian citizens.

April 8 :
Students with Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) cards should be treated equally with Indian citizens during the online counselling process for admission to undergraduate dental and medical programmes for the academic year 2024–2025, according to a recent ruling by the Karnataka High Court bench, which offered interim relief to a student.

The High Court bench of Justices Anu Sivaraman and Anant Ramanath Hegde issued an order on April 2 allowing OCI cardholders to participate in online counselling for admission to undergraduate courses in medical, dental, and engineering for the academic year 2024-2025, on par with Indian citizens.

This order was delivered by the High Court bench following the State Government's statement that it had no objections to admitting OCI cardholder students to undergraduate dental, medical, and engineering programmes at public and private universities for the 2024–25 school year on a same footing with Indian citizens.

For all India entrance exams, including NEET, JEE (Mains), and JEE (Advanced), the most recent gazette notice (March 3, 2021) stated that OCI cardholders could only be admitted against Non-Resident Indian seats or supernumerary seats, not including seats allocated specifically for Indian residents. Nonetheless, the Supreme Court heard arguments challenging this clause. As a result, the OCI candidates were given interim relief by the Supreme Court.
