Survey: Modi Could Easily Outrun Congress in Indian Election

April 4:
On April 3, in New Delhi: According to a survey, the main opposition Congress could achieve a historic low in the next Indian elections, which begin this month, while a coalition led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's party could win over three-quarters of the parliamentary seats.

Even though he has a terrible track record of creating jobs and the gap between the rich and the poor is growing, the greatly popular Modi is riding high on the back of robust economic development, giveaways, and the January opening of a Hindu temple on a contentious location in the country that is home to a Hindu majority. Voting for the seven-stage, five-year election will take place from April 19 to June 1, with the results being announced on June 4.

An opinion survey conducted on Wednesday by India TV-CNX predicted that out of 543 seats in the lower chamber of parliament, Modi's National Democratic Alliance alliance might secure 399, while his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alone is expected to secure 342. With a majority of 272 seats, Modi and his alliance are aiming for a victory of over 400. The varied nation of 1.42 billion people has a checkered record when it comes to opinion polls. The BJP and its alliance garnered over 350 seats five years ago, with the former receiving 303. Based on the results of the March survey, which included about 180,000 people, the number of seats in Congress could drop to 38, which would be a record low. The previous record was 44 in 2014, and 52 in 2019. Since the announcement of election dates last month, this survey has been the first of its kind.

According to the survey, the party's coalition partners from the "INDIA" alliance, who have decided to run in the elections together, are projected to secure 94 seats in total. Nineteen seats could go to the Trinamool Congress, a large regional party that is affiliated with "INDIA" but chose not to run in tandem with Congress in West Bengal, a state in eastern India. With 73 out of 80 seats up for grabs, the BJP is likely to repeat its success from the last two elections in the most populous state in the nation, Uttar Pradesh.
