Microsoft has appointed Pavan Davuluri, a veteran of the firm, to head the teams responsible for Windows and Surface devices. Mikhail Parakhin oversaw a new team that concentrated on Windows and web experiences, while the Indian American took over the Surface silicon and devices development six months ago. Since Parakhin has "decided to explore new roles," Davuluri will now be in charge of both Windows and Surface, according to The Verge.

"Coming a week after Microsoft said it was hiring former DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman as the head of a new organisation called Microsoft AI," according to CNBC, Davuluri's promotion is significant.

The Verge revealed that Microsoft is now reuniting its Windows and devices teams, citing an internal memo from the company's head of experiences and devices, Rajesh Jha. The business will be able to "take a holistic approach to building silicon, systems, experiences, and devices that span Windows client and cloud for this AI era," according to Jha, as a result of this combination.

Jha also described other modifications to the organization's structure that have occurred since Suleyman was hired. Davuluri will be the boss of Shilpa Ranganathan's team, who has been Microsoft's Windows CVP since April 2022 and has over 15 years of corporate experience. Reporting to Ribas will be Fatima Kardar, a CVP of AI infrastructure and relationships with over 22 years of experience at Microsoft. Reporting to Suleyman, Rukmini Iyer, a 13-year Microsoft veteran and CVP of Microsoft Advertising product engineering, will oversee Advertising and become a member of the Microsoft AI executive team. On the other hand, Weiqing Tu, the CVP in charge of the Microsoft Start content feed product, and engineer Paul Viola will answer to Iyer.

Davuluri, a graduate of IIT Madras, started working at Microsoft in 2001 as a Reliability Component Manager. Over his 23-year career at the firm, he has worked on Windows, Surface, and PC and Xbox hardware in a variety of executive roles. In 2021, he assumed the position of corporate vice president for Silicon & Systems Integration and was in charge of managing the Windows optimisation for Arm-based device initiatives. He did his post-graduation studies at the University of Maryland, per his LinkedIn page.
