Navalny's body found, with bruises
Media reports emerging out of Eastern Europe said on Monday that the body of Russia's prominent opposition leader Alexi Navalny has been found at the same mortuary from where authorities earlier claimed it had gone missing. An unidentified paramedical source with detailed information told the 'Novaya Gazatta Europe' in Latvia that bruises were found on the head and chest of the leader, Prasident Putin's most powerful rival.
Navalny, who was undegoing a 30-year jail sentence in the notorious Arctic Circle prison, collapsed and died during a walk, according to prison officials. They told his mother Ludmila that he died of the 'sudden death syndrome.' She had met him in prison on February 12 and reported he was healthy and happy.
The newspaper's source said Navalny's body was not taken to the forensic bureau as is mandatory, but was rushed to a clinic. "He was then brought to the mortuary and two cops were posted there."
Nearly 400 people who offered flowers at makeshift memorials for Navalny were rounded up and many were jailed. The ambassadors on US and the UK laid flowers.
