To fortify ties, New Jersey-India Commission established

NJ :
There are almost too many partnerships and links between New Jersey and India to list, but they are too important to overlook.

To begin with, you have to consider that about 5% of people living in New Jersey are South Asian, with many of them concentrated in vibrant areas like Edison/Iselin, Jersey City, and Robbinsville.

Then include the information that India is the state's second-largest foreign direct investor and that New Jersey has the highest concentration of Indian businesses nationwide.

Which brings us to this: New Jersey and India engage in over $10 billion worth of bilateral trade each year.

This explains why New Jersey established the New Jersey-India Commission on Tuesday, the third such commission in the state's history, and why India is the only nation with two Choose New Jersey offices.

Soon after the commission was established, Governor Phil Murphy stated, "This is a statement about the breadth, scale and size of not just the relationship as it is today — everything from the diaspora living here, to the jobs created, to the trade between India and New Jersey — but also a statement about the potential future growth of all of the above."

With 39 members representing a range of industries, the panel will be led by Choose New Jersey CEO Wes Mathews in the role of chair. Murphy stated that an executive director announcement will be made later.

A who's who of state leaders in a variety of fields make up the commission, including state senators Vin Gopal (D-Ocean Twp.) and Raj Mukherji (D-Jersey City), Indu Lew and Balpreet Grewal-Virk of RWJ Baranabas Health, Jose Lozano of Hackensack Meridian Health, Coleen Burrus of Princeton University, Raj Parikh of Genova Burns, Pavita Howe of BioNJ, Parimal Garg of the Governor's Office, and Raj Parikh of Genova Burns.

Consul General Binaya Srikanta Prasad also spoke and welcomed the establishment of the new NJ - India commission

The chair of the New Jersey - India commission will be Wes Mathew. At the moment, Wes leads Choose New Jersey as CEO. Wes, an Indian American with roots in Kerala, held top diplomatic posts in Germany, Saudi Arabia, India, and Pakistan, among other nations.
