Rahul Goes On A Truck Ride From Washington To New York
WASHINGTON, DC
Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who is currently in the US, embarked on a 120-mile “American Truck Yatra†from Washington to New York, engaging in conversation with an Indian truck driver along the way. Accompanied by Indian American drivers Taljinder Singh, Vicky Gill, and Ranjeet Singh Banipal, the journey concluded with breakfast at a roadside eatery.
During the ride, Rahul Gandhi posed several questions and observed that trucks in the US are designed with the driver’s safety and comfort in mind, a feature lacking in India. The conversation also highlighted the disparity faced by Indian truck drivers, who struggle to make ends meet due to low wages and escalating prices, in contrast to their American counterparts who receive decent wages and dignity for their labor.
While discussing the rising prices of commodities, inflation, and politics in India with Gill, Rahul Gandhi emphasized that no religion advocates for spreading hatred. Additionally, he listened to songs by the popular Punjabi singer late Sidhu Moosewala during the journey.
Rahul Gandhi expressed the need to learn from the American trucking industry and develop a new vision for India’s truck industry. He emphasized that Indian truck drivers, who are vital to the country’s logistics, deserve a life of dignity.
In a statement, the Congress party affirmed that the progress and well-being of Indian truck drivers are crucial for the economy, as they are at the forefront of “Bharat Jodo†and that Rahul Gandhi aims to listen attentively and work towards ensuring a better and brighter future for every hardworking Indian.
