Shreya first Indian-American to be crowned Miss Wisconsin Teen USA

MADISON, Wisconsin, June 10: Shreya Gundelly, a pre-med student at New York University, is the first Indian-American to be crowned Miss Wisconsin Teen USA. Nineteen year old Gundelly was crowned Miss Wisconsin Teen USA in late May. Gundelly, who started performing in pageants six years ago, is a dancer with a love for public speaking. Initially, Gundelly felt her ethnicity to be an obstacle and she never talked about her Indian classical dance. Later, the pageantry helped her realize that culture is part of what makes her special.

“I’ve really made it my mission to educate people and show them that pageantry is a lot more than just the glitz and the glam and the gowns and there’s something underneath there that is so, so special,” she reportedly said. As Miss Wisconsin Teen USA, Gundelly wants to use her platform to show young people anything is possible. Over the summer, Gundelly will be spending time preparing to represent Wisconsin at the Miss Teen USA pageant. The pageant will be held in Tulsa, Oklahoma in November.
