India COVID-19 cases inch towards 10 lakh mark

India recorded the highest single-day spike of 29,429 coronavirus cases and 582 deaths in the last 24 hours, pushing the tally to 9,36,181 cases with a death toll of 24,309 , the Health’s Ministry’s data stated on Wednesday.

The number of recoveries stands at 5,92,031, while there are 3,19,840 active cases of coronavirus infection presently in the country. The relief is that the number of recoveries is almost twice the number of active cases. India, however, remains as the third-worst-affected country after the US and Brazil.

During the last 24 hours, 3,20,161 samples were tested, as the testing lab network continues to expand. As on date, more than 1,206 labs have enabled people to undergo coronavirus tests.

In Chennai, one of the worst hit cities in the country , the COVID-19 positives continue to dip as city records 1078 cases. The city has so far recorded 79,662 cases and 1295 deaths. On Tuesday, a total of 1858 people were discharged taking the total discharge rate of 62,552 which is way higher than the 15,814 active cases in the city.As a whole , Tamil Nadu has 1,47,324, including 2,099 deaths.

Maharashtra remained the worst-hit state, with 2,67,665 cases and 10,695 casualities .
