Mumbai with 11 of state's 45 Covid-19 deaths, Maha cases at 748

Mumbai, April 5 A total of 13 persons, including several women, died in Maharashtra on Sunday due to Covid-19 - highest number of fatalities in a single day till date - taking the state's toll to 45, while the number of positive cases in Maharashtra increased by 113 to take the total to 748, officials said here.

While 8 deaths were reported from Mumbai, three more victims are from Pune, and one each from Aurangabad and Kalyan-Dombivali (Thane).

None of the 13 victims had any recent history of foreign travel, said the Health Department.

The new Covid-19 positive cases reported include 81 from Mumbai, with the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) figures catapulting to 458.

Besides, 18 new cases were reported from Pune, four each from Aurangabad and Thane, three in Ahmednagar, one each in Palghar and Osmanabad, and one from another state, details of which are not specified, spiraling the state total to 748.

Among the Mumbai coronavirus victims on Sunday were a 70-year old woman and seven men, most of who suffered from other illnesses and tested Covid-19 positive.

The woman patient was admitted to KEM Hospital on Saturday after chest pain and breathlessness and succumbed to respiratory failure.

A 58-year-old bank officer with complaints of diabetes, heart and hypertension died in Aurangabad while a 67-year-old woman with diabetes and hypertension succumbed in Kalyan-Dmbivali (Thane).

The oldest, an 80-year-old man was admitted to a private hospital with complaints of weakness and epilepsy and died due to respiratory failure.

A 77-year-old man who was admitted to the Kasturba Hospital here on March 29 for fever, cough and breathlessness, died on Saturday due to respiratory failure.

The other victims here fall in the age group of 52-64 and had various other ailments besides Covid-19, according to the BMC.

Till Sunday, Maharashtra recorded a total of 45 Covid-19 deaths, including several women, with a maximum of 30 deaths from Mumbai, the highest in the country.

Simultaneously, a total of 56 patients in the state, including 20 in Mumbai - who fully recovered - have been discharged.

Presently, a total of 46,586 persons are in home quarantine and 3,122 are in institutional quarantine across the state.

A total of 3,078 teams have been set up which have conducted a door-to-door survey of around 10 lakh people in major cities.

They include: 519 teams in Mumbai, 439 in Pune, 210 in Nagpur, and 196 in Navi Mumbai, said the Health Department official.
