Sumedh Mannar, 27, an Oregon State University student drowned after jumping off a rock into Crater Lake on Sunday afternoon, media reports said.
He jumped off a small rock cliff at Cleetwood Cove around 4:40 p.m., and did not resurface.

Mannar was a graduate student at OSU, according to Marsha McCabe, a spokeswoman for Crater Lake National Park.

Mannar had jumped from about 25 feet high. The cliff, known as ‘Jumping Rock,’ is a popular recreation spot, she said, and was not a prohibited area for jumping. She said officials have not yet determined exactly why he drowned.

A dive team arrived in the area, but wasn’t able to start the search before dark. After about three hours of searching and no sign of Mannar, officials called off the search for the night and resumed it Monday morning.

Divers on Monday morning dove in the last known spot Mannar had been seen and found him about 90 feet straight down in the water on a rock ledge.
Mannar’s body was transported to Klamath Falls, according to the Oregonian.com
