Khalistan Referendum 2020 Is A Democratic Campaign and Will Continue – SFJ

New York, (July 11 2019) –
In Defiance of Indian Govt.’s ban on Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, legal advisor burnt the Tricolor to continue the commitment for Separatists agenda.
Reaffirming the commitment to non-violence campaign for Sikhs’ right to self-determination, attorney Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, legal advisor to ‘Sikhs For Justice” (SFJ) stated that ‘We will defy India’s ban by hoisting Khalistan Flags outside Indian Consulates in US, Canada, UK and Europe on August 15th during India’s Independence Day”.
Referendum is an internationally recognized democratic modus operandi to ascertain the will of peoples on any political issue, attorney Pannun stated ‘Khalistan is a political opinion and SFJ’s initiative of seeking Sikh peoples’ opinion through Referendum 2020 will continue irrespective of India’s ban”.
SFJ believes in ballot not bullet, attorney Pannun Stated ‘After being unsuccessful in containing the growing popularity of Khalistan 2020 in Punjab through detention and torture of Referendum campaigners, Indian government is now trying to achieve its nefarious agenda by banning SFJ”.
SFJ and Referendum 2020
Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), is human rights advocacy group which believes in and adheres to Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and believes in right of self-determination for all peoples as provided in Article 1 of UN Charter and International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).
SFJ believes that Sikhs of Indian held Punjab, as indigenous people and followers of distinct and separate religion – Sikhism, have right of self determination under UN Charter and ICCPR.
SFJ believes that Sikhs’ right of self-determination warrants to be realized through establishment of an independent and sovereign state in the region of Punjab currently governed by India where Sikh people are in majority, through referendum.
SFJ believes in and is working towards realization of Sikh peoples right of self determination through peaceful and democratic means of Referendum, ballot and voting.
SFJ unequivocally condemns use of violence to promote or to suppress any political opinion.
Sikhs are a religious minority in India who have been persecuted ever since India obtained independence from Britain in 1947. Persecution of Sikhs under India’s rule since 1947 include:
Denial of separate religious identity by labeling Sikhs as ‘Hindus” in Article 25 of the Constitution of India;
Military attack, invasion, desecration and massacre at the holiest Sikh shrine The Golden Temple in June 1984 killing more than 10,000 pilgrims including women and children.
November 1984 Sikh Genocide killing more than 30,000 Sikhs throughout India;
Decade long extra judicial killing of Sikhs in 1980s and 1990s by the security forces in the name of counter insurgency to crush the movement for Khalistan;
Plundering of River waters of Punjab and giving it to other States of India, without compensation to Punjab, and thus forcing economic suicide upon 80,000 Sikh farmers.
Spreading drug epidemic in Punjab through the active connivance of government and administration.
