Mandeep Singh, 37, a divorced father of two children was found dead after killing the children in Fort Worth, Texas.

The bodies of the children had been found in a burning car on Sunday. The Cooke County Sheriff's Department had been searching for Mandeep Singh in connection with the children's deaths.

On Monday afternoon, the office confirmed that it found Singh's body in a wooded area. He appeared to have shot himself.

Sheriff Terry Gilbert said in a news release that the bodies found in the car had been identified as Singh's young children: Aijit Singh Birring, a 4-year-old boy, and Mehar Kaur Birring, a 3-year-old girl. The children's causes of death are still unknown.

Officials were called Sunday to the 10000 block of County Road 417 north of the town of Muenster, where a car was burning in the middle of the road. Firefighters found the remains of the children inside, according the Dallas News.

Authorities believe the fire was intentionally set and are investigating the deaths of Singh and his children as a murder-suicide, the sheriff's office said.

A spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services said Aijit and Mehar were Singh's only children. The agency previously had contact with the family more than a year ago, she said, but that interaction did not involve injuries to the children.

In October 2016, Singh was arrested on a family-violence assault charge. He was accused of hitting his wife, according to Fort Worth police records.
He received 15 months of deferred-adjudication probation for the charge, according to Tarrant County court records.

The woman filed for divorce in 2017, and the proceedings were finalized last year. She had obtained a temporary restraining order against Singh, court records show, according to Dallas News.
