70mm Entertainments (Vijay Chilla and Shashi Devireddy) “YATRA” to be released Worldwide on Feb.7th in North America, a biopic on Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy (aka YSR), one of the most popular and charismatic leaders of Andhra Pradesh. Most of the movie will be centered around the iconic “pada yatra” undertaken in April 2003. Andhra Pradesh was going through a tough phase – power issues, drought situation everywhere, farmers suicides, rampant unemployment etc. YSR crisscrossed the state for more than 60 days in scorching summer heat to understand the plight of citizens. YSR single handedly against all odds brought Congress back to power in Andhra Pradesh in 2004. His “pada yatra” played a pivotal role in Congress party winning the mandate in Andhra Pradesh. Political pundits attribute a lot of credit to the 2004 Congress win at the center to the 29 MP seats YSR won in Andhra Pradesh.

Looks like Mahi V Raghav will direct this film. This is Mahi’s directorial venture after the stupendous success of “Anando Brahma”. Mahi is known to be a very meticulous director – he makes sure to have a bound script before going to the sets.

This is by far the most ambitious project of 70mm Entertainments. Here is the scoop that will leave you genuinely surprised – southern Megastar Mammootty has been roped in to essay the role of YSR. Mammootty needs no introduction to movie audience – he is a national award-winning Megastar who has essayed every role in the book and has appeal all over India. Rumor has that Mammootty was blown away by Mahi’s narration and by the bound script.

YSR appealed to every section of the society. His populist schemes endeared him to the needy people who were left behind for a long time. Mammootty brings an appeal that very few actors can bring to the table. His presence makes the project appealing to entire south India. Considering the budget and scope of this project, this is a prestigious venture for 70mm Entertainments and Mahi V Raghav.

70mm Entertainments is undertaking this venture with a budget of 30+ crores. The movie is slated to go to sets in May 2018 and wrap up the shoot by September 2018. “YATRA” will be released after the post production work – sometime between Dasara 2018 and Sankranthi 2019. We have to see if they can keep their HIT record intact after giving back to back superhits “Bhale Manchi Roju” and “Anando Brahma”.
