Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, who won with  issued the following statement on election night:

"Tonight, I am so honored to have earned the decisive support of Washington’s 7th District once again to return to Congress and stand up for the values of this progressive and hope-filled district. Thank you to everyone who helped us win; together, we built a grassroots movement that knocked on 34,500 doors, made more than 100,000 phone calls, and organized over 1,050 volunteers to elect progressive candidates in Washington state and across the nation.

"Thanks to this support, we accomplished a resounding victory: the American people voted to put the Democrats back in control of the U.S. House of Representatives. Now, we are primed to restore the balance of power between the branches of government and push back even more strongly against the Trump administration's deeply destructive policies. Our communities are sick and tired of the corruption and injustice. In Washington state, our voters are demanding progress on our greatest challenges -- as of tonight, popular referendums to enact common sense gun control and police accountability are firmly in the lead.

"With new and diverse voices joining our ranks, we are building a movement that truly represents the people of this country. Every day, we will continue building on this momentum and lifting up new ideas and policies that will increase the economic security of working families, provide health care to every American, and recommit our country to fulfill its promise for justice and progress for all.”
